Frankie, our ever-fearless leader, bought tickets online for the Petronas Twin Towers, which meant that we didn’t have to wake up at 6:30am and queue for an hour for same-day tickets. Instead, we moseyed over to the towers around 9:30 and were up to the Skybridge by 10:15. The view was spectacular — the Skybridge itself connects the two towers, weighing in at 750 tons. Even better was the view from the observation deck. Definitely worth the 80 ringgit to head to the top of one of the world’s tallest buildings.
We then went to the KL Bird Park, the largest free-flight walk-in aviary in the world. We spent 2+ hours here, marveling at unique species of Southeast Asian birds (i.e. the hornbill) and being further entertained by monkeys near a snack bar. (This time, a few monkeys were rummaging through the trash, and one finally pulled the entire garbage bag out of the can and began eating.) One of the highlights was feeding the lories in the parrot section of the park. Buying sunflower seeds and nectar for 2 ringgit meant that 3-4 lories would grasp your hand and arm and dig into the food you were holding. Frankie and I got some nice close-up shots with our cameras — birds are cool.
Later on, we briefly checked out the Central Market nearby our hotel, went shopping in Chinatown, had a delicious chocolate milk drink called milo, and went to dinner at Din Tai Fung. Literally the best dumplings I’ve ever had, and a hilarious meal overall. The dumplings are unique since they have some broth inside, so you have to bite a small hole in the outside covering, suck out the broth, and then eat the rest of the dumpling. Yukun and Frankie have been training me in the art of chopsticks, and aside from dropping one dumpling in my chamomile tea, I’d say there was some improvement.
The six of us are headed to Singapore tomorrow, and we’ll be in Marina Bay’s infinity pool ASAP upon landing. Goodbye, KL!
